Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday distributed Meritorious Award to well performing students from Tea Garden areas a function in Guwahati. The award is named after former Assam Minister and founder Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das.

Distributing the award, CM Sarbananda Sonowal said, “The brothers and sisters from the Tea Tribe community have toiled hard over decades to bring economic fortune to Assam. We are indebted to them. Today, the young students amongst them have emerged as one of the most potential & bright assets for the State.”
The award is a step towards encouraging the bright young students of the Tea Garden areas and instill competitive spirit amongst them.
The CM also urged all students to take inspiration from Assam Express Hima Das, who has toiled hard to excel. “She is working even harder today to bring more laurels to the nation. If you have dedication, if you work hard and if you have a spirit to serve your parents and your country, you will succeed, said the Chief Minister.
