Children of several employees of Cachar paper mill have taken to the social media so as to draw the attention of the Central and the State governments to the non-release of salaries of their parents and sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s intervention on the issue.
Incidentally, employees of Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram and Nagaon Paper Mill in Jagiroad have not got their monthly salaries for the past two years that has pushed them to severe financial crunch.
Amid numerous protests and demonstration taken up by employees and their family members of the two industrial units, students of the employees have now taken to the social media narrating their plight and seeking the immediate intervention of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Sonowal in releasing the uncleared dues of their parents.
“My father is an employee of Hindustan Paper Corporation. The corporation is not running for the past three years and my father has not received his salaries for two years. How can we survive in such a situation? … My father has not been able to buy me books or pay my school fees,” a student said in a video that has now gone viral in the social media and questioned as to how she could concentrate on her studies.
“How can I concentrate on my studies? What about my future? My father can’t do any other work now since he is getting old. I would like to request our PM and CM to please fulfill your commitment, release my father’s salaries and revive the mill,” the class VIII student said.
Other students also made similar fervent appeals to the government to take up steps to revive the two paper mills besides also releasing the uncleared dues of their parents.
