Classes of 10th standard to resume from 20 September: Assam Education Minister

Guwahati:  As the Covid-19 situation is improving in Assam, the state government announced that the physical classes for class 10 will resume on September 20 (Monday). This was stated by state education minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu on  Thursday.

Speaking to the media Dr. Ranoj Pegu said, “We have decided to resume the physical 10 standard classes from Monday. It will no more be online. Not more than 30 students are allowed in each section of the class. A new SOP will be released by tomorrow for the teachers and students of class 10. And I would urge the students to mentally prepare themselves to attend classes from this coming Monday.”

Dr. Pegu also added, ” The students and teachers will have to follow all the COVID-19 protocols while attending the classes and sanitization of the classes should be started from today itself. I would also like to inform the students that within a few days we will resume the other classes too.”

He also informed that classes of 12th standard and degree courses have already started in the state.

After many months, educational institutions will reopen from Monday for the final-year classes – Class XII, TDC final year and post-graduation final year. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the educational system and student-teacher classroom learning.

Considering the importance of continuous education and following improvement in the COVID situation in the State, the Assam Government has decided to start physical re-opening of Senior Secondary Schools (i.e Class XII), final year classes/semesters in degree collèges and final year PG classes/semesters in universities, and physical classes in technical institutions.

The State Education Department has issued supplementary Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the physical reopening of schools and colleges. Online mode of education will continue for students who prefer to attend online classes rather than physically attend school. Physical attendance in schools is optional and not mandatory.
