Chirang: 3 attacked by villagers over witch-hunt suspicion

GUWAHATI: Three persons including two women were brutally assaulted by villagers at a village along the Indo-Bhutan border in lower Assam’s Chirang district. According to reports, a group of errant villagers attacked the two families over the suspicion of witch-hunting at Bhurbasti at late-night on Saturday.

Three persons—Parmeswar Sutradhar, Manjula Satrudhar and Gendi Basumatary were seriously injured in the attack.

“They did not ask us any question. They attacked our families over the suspicion of practising witchcraft. This is not done,” said a family member of the victims.

Meanwhile, Runikhata Police arrived on the spot and recovered the victims. They were admitted to a local hospital.
