Chhattisgarh | BSF trooper, Naxal killed on poll eve

A Naxal and a BSF trooper were killed in two separate incidents in Chhattisgarh, a day before 18 constituencies go to polls in the first phase of assembly elections tomorrow (Nov 12).

A Maoist was killed while another was injured in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur district on Sunday. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site with police security forces increasing security in the Naxal-dominated areas for smooth conduct of the vote.

On the other hand,a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed in an IED explosion at Koyalibeda area. A set of six IEDs were planted in a series and made to go off at one go targeting a BSF convoy patrolling the area leading to the death of one trooper. ASI Mahender Singh was injured and sustained splinter injuries later succumbed at hospital.

Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh will be held in in two phases – Nov 12 (tomorrow) and Nov 20 – while results will be announced on Dec 11.
