GUWAHATI, Jan 21: At least 14 Maoists, including two woman Naxals and a senior leader carrying a reward of Rs 1 crore, were killed in an encounter with Chhattisgarh Police in Gariaband district along the State’s borders with Odisha since Monday.
Chalapati, a high-ranking Maoist leader who was carrying a Rs 1 crore bounty and who played a crucial role in the organization’s operations in Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states, was killed in the encounter.
His death, reports stated, is being considered a major blow to the Maoist movement in the region.
Meanwhile, reports stated that the tally could increase with the gun-battle still raging on.
After the two women Maoists were killed in an encounter on Monday, fresh exchange of fire took place late Monday night in a forest under Mainpur police station area along the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border, news agency PTI reported citing officials, adding that 12 more Maoists were killed as the gunbattle is still raging on.
The official, the report also quoted, said the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), CoBRA from Chhattisgarh and Special Operation Group (SOG) from Odisha were involved in the offensive against the Maoists.
