GUWAHATI, Feb 24: The chances of survival of the eight persons who were trapped in a tunnel in Telangana after portion of the roof collapsed on Saturday are “very remote” although efforts are being made to reach to them and rescue them alive, Telangana Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said today.
“When we shouted their names also, there was no response…so there is almost no chance…,” he was reported as saying.
NDRF, SDRF and other teams involved in the rescue mission are also being assisted by rat miners who had previously helped in a similar mission and saved construction workers trapped in the Silkayara Bend-Barkot tunnel in Uttarakhand in 2013.
While a total of 51 persons were working on the left-side tunnel when the roof collapsed, 43 workers managed to come out of the tunnel and the remaining eight were trapped.
The trapped individuals comprise two engineers, two operators and four labourers.
