Cancer Prevention and Control: Hundreds of youth join the movement in Guwahati

A series of Cancer Control and Prevention has been organised by the department of Preventive Oncology, Dr B.Borooah Cancer Institute, in collaboration with different Educational Institutions of North Eastern regions in context to Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav- celebration of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) iconic week.

In context to this a series of health talk- “Paradigm from the communicable to non-communicable health maladies” by Dr.Srabana Misra Bhagabaty, In Charge of the Department of Preventive Oncology, Dr B.Borooah Cancer Institute was organised in different Educational Institutions.
To mention here on 23rd August, 2022 around 150 students from North-East and Institute Faculties attended the program at Pragati Edutech, Zoo Road and Assam Don Bosco University in Tapesia of Rural Kamrup on 25th August 2022. Around 160 students from all eight North Eastern states and faculty also participated in the program.

Under the initiative of the department; ‘Catch them Young’, a team from Preventive oncology consisting of Dr Srabana Misra Bhagabaty and supporting team from Dr B.Borooah Cancer Institute, Mrs.Bhabani Hazarika, Ms.Darshana Baruah, Sanjay Das and Amit Bhowmik.

Conducted a half day long tobacco control program for students of the Arya Vidyapeeth, 270 students and faculty of the institution participated in the program.

In context to the same celebration an initiative has been taken by the Department of Preventive Oncology of BBCI for the collaboration with Assam Don Bosco University to serve the extensive community based Cancer control drive in partnership with CLII ( community led Improvement Initiative) of the university in 24 university adopted tribal villages of the rural belt in coming months.

Dr Bhagabaty said,”Awareness n screening for common cancers are the important pillars of cancer prevention n control”
