The campaigning for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections ended this evening with candidates as well as the political parties making the last-ditch effort to reach out to the voters.
A total of 116 constituencies in 13 States and two union territories will go to polls in the third phase on April 23 (Tuesday). Voting will also be held in the remaining four constituencies of Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Guwahati on Tuesday.
Voting will begin at 7 am Tuesday and will officially conclude at 5 pm.
Meanwhile, on the last day of campaigning, BJP star campaigners — Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and NEDA convener and State Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma — continued their marathon campaign for candidates of the BJP and its alliance partners.
The BJP took out a massive motorcycle rally in Guwahati that was flagged off by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and attended by key party leaders to drum up support for the party’s Guwahati candidate Queen Oja. He also addressed poll rallies at Manikpur, Abhayapuri and Baghmara Char (Barpeta LS constituency) and at Hajo (Guwahati LS seat).
Himanta Biswa Sarma also addressed five mega election rallies at Changsari (Guwahati), Gossaigaon (Kokrajhar), Bongaigaon and Patacharkuchi (Barpeta) and at Amingaon (Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency).
The NEDA convener had taken out his last Padyatra Saturday, walking for 17 kilometres from Bharalumukh to Fatasil Ambari, during which he was joined by more than one lakh people and turning the city into a sea of saffron.
Guwahati will witness a two-cornered contest between BJP’s Queen Oja and Bobbeeta Sharma of the Congress. The Congress as well as the AIUDF, contesting in Dhubri and Barpeta seats, also campaigned today.
