GUWAHATI, Jan 6: Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be rested for the majority of India’s upcoming white-ball series against England with a view to getting him completely fit for the Champions Trophy which begins on February 19.
Bumrah suffered back spasms in the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney which prevented him from bowling in the second innings of the match.
Bumrah took 32 wickets in the five Tests and was named Player of the Tournament although India had a disastrous series, losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-3 and failing to make it to the World Test Championship final.
Although the intensity of the back spasm Bumrah suffered in the final Test is not yet known, the BCCI will be in no mood to further aggravate matters.
India will open their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20.
