GUWAHATI: The Assam State Election Commission is likely to announce the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) poll dates following the declaration of the Bihar assembly election results.
According to a source at Assam State Election Commission, the Assam Government has directed the commission to conduct the election by December 15. The commission has been studying how COVID-19 protocols have been followed in the Bihar assembly election.
The results for Bihar polls will be declared on November 10. The Assam State Election Commission is likely to announce the BTC poll dates after that.
The deputy commissioners and sub-divisional officers of all the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) have been asked to be prepared for the election. They have been asked to set up sufficient number of polling booths so that COVID-19 protocols are ensured.
The sources also informed Niyomiya Barta that the election commission would need maximum two weeks to conduct the BTC election. Because the process of filing, verification and cancellation of nominations was already completed in March.
It is noteworthy in the light of COVID-19 pandemic, this year the BTC election will be conducted in ballots.
