BTAD renamed as BTR, steps taken to implement Bodo Accord: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: The Assam governor has approved the renaming of Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) to Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), said Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.

“It was one of the parts of the Bodo Peace Accord,” said Dr. Sarma.

Minister Sarma said that a commission will look after the inclusion and exclusion of villages in the BTR.

“The commission will be headed by former Assam chief secretary P P Verma. There will be three other members—BTC administrator Rajesh Prasad, Jayanta Basumatary ABSU representative, Dalim Bayan as the representative of other communities,” said minister Sarma.

Later the commission will also look after the move to increase the number of seats in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) to 60.
