BSF troopers have been maintaining strict vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh international border and have thwarted multiple attempts by Bangladeshi migrants to cross over into India
Border Security Force (BSF) jawans successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by a large group of Bangladeshi intruders to enter Assam through the Indo-Bangladesh border in South Salmara Mankachar district of the State.
BSF troopers on Tuesday observed suspicious movement of Bangladesh nationals approaching towards the International Boundary from the Bangladesh side with the intention to cross into Assam.
BSF troopers acted swiftly, as they challenged the Bangladeshi nationals and prevented their unauthorized entry into Assam.
Three BSF jawans were reportedly injured in a scuffle with the intruders.
The Bangladeshi nationals later retreated back into the neighbouring country.
The incident comes amid a crackdown launched by the Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam Government against illegal Bangladeshi nationals in the State.
Over 200 Bangladeshi nationals have been held by Assam Police and those found without valid Indian documents have been pushed back to Bangladesh.
The BSF, meanwhile, said it is commitment to safeguarding the country’s borders and continues to maintain a high level of alertness and professionalism in addressing emerging challenges along the border.
