Upasa Phukan, daughter of Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, reportedly fell from the roof of their 2-storey building at Kharghuli in Guwahati
GUWAHATI, March 30: Upasa Phukan, daughter of former Assam Home Minister Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, died after falling from the roof of their house in Kharghuli, Guwahati.
Upasa, report said, fell from the roof of their two-storied house at Kharghuli at 7:55 am today morning.
She was the only child of Bhrigu Kumar Phukan.
It is not immediately known as to whether it was an accidental fall or she committed suicide.
Her body has been brought to GMCH for a post-mortem.
Bhrigu Kumar Phukan was one of the key leaders of the then All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and was made the Home Minister of Assam after the AGP stormed to power in 1985.
He represented Jalukbari in the Assam Assembly for three terms from 1985 before losing to Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in 2001.
He died of multiple organ failure on at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on March 20, 2006.
