Breaking: Governor’s rule imposed in BTAD

GUWAHATI: Assam governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has imposed governor’s rule in Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) as the tenure of Hagrama Moohilary-led Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) ends today. The governor’s rule will continue in BTAD till a new council is formed. BTC polls scheduled for April 4 were postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Assam governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has appointed Assam Government’s principal secretary Rajesh Prasad as the administrator of the BTC.

“The Governor is pleased to appoint Shri Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam to exercise all the functions and powers exercisable by the said Council and its Executive Committee, Chief Executive Member, Deputy Chief Executive Member, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Executive Members, subject to such directions as may be issued by Hon’ble Governor from time to time. He will thus perform his duties under the superintendence, direction and control of Hon’ble Governor of Assam,” stated in an official order issued by Dr. M. Angamuthu,  the commissioner and secretary to the Welfare of Plains and Backward Classes Department of the Government of Assam.
