GUWAHATI, Oct 23: In a massive blow to the desperate efforts of opposition parties to forge form a platform of opposition parties in Assam, APCC president Bhupen Kumar Bora today (Oct 23) resigned as president of the conglomerate of opposition parties which was recently rechristened as the ‘Asom Sonmilito Morcha’.
In a letter addressed to the general secretary of the forum, Bhupem Bora stated that he was quitting from his post of president of the conglomerate since he was “under tremendous pressure” to enforce the decision of the 5-member committee formed to finalise the candidate for Behali constituency which the CPI(ML) had been demanding.
I have been trying to persuade the 5-member committee to re-consider its recommendation, but they have refused to do soand are demanding immediate confirmation from the AICC,” Bhupen Bora stated in his regignation letter.
“Under tremendous pressure on me to make the decision enforced, which I am not able to execute, I have no alternative other than tendering my resignation as president of the opposition unity in Assam,” he added.
The Opposition conglomerate is at bitter loggerheads and has failed to project its candidate with less than 48 hours left for the process of filing of nomination papers to close.
