Guwahati: Archana Mahanta, noted folk singer from Assam passed away on Thursday due to prolong illness. She was admitted to a private nursing home in Guwahati following a brain stroke.
According to reports, the acclaimed singer was undergoing treatment at Health City Hospital in Guwahati.
Archana Mahanta and her late husband Khagen Mahanta had enormous contribution in popularising and preserving Assamsese folk music. There are many evergreen songs to the credit of the popular singer couple.
Their son Papon is a famous playback singer in Bollywood.
She has two grandchildren, Puhor and Parijaat. She also has a daughter, Kingkini Mahanta.
