Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Brahmastra’ is topping the box office charts as the film is running housefull in theatres, after its release on September 9. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, ‘Brahmastra’ has reportedly entered the prestigious 100 crore club after grossing around Rs 105 crore during the weekend.
Within two days of its release, the film had grossed around Rs 160 crore at the global box office. Following in the footsteps of Salman Khan starrer ‘Sultan’ that earned Rs 105.60 crore and Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ that grossed Rs 104.60 crore, ‘Brahmastra’ has secured its position on the seventh spot in the 100 crore weekend club. The film released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, is doing well in the south as well. It has collected around Rs 13 crores in the south versions with maximum profit in Telugu.
As per a report in PinkVilla, ‘Brahmastra’ was the number one movie at the global box office during the weekend. This is the first time ever a Bollywood film has topped the worldwide box office charts and the third for any Indian film, all three happening in the last two years. Prior to Brahmastra, Vijay starrer Master and S.S. Rajamouli directed NTR Jr. and Ram Charan starrer ‘RRR’ were the ones to achieve this feat.
‘Brahmastra’ has also become the first Asian movie to top the worldwide box office charts, by earning $26.50 million, outnumbering the Chinese film ‘Give Me Five’ and the Korean film ‘Confidential Assignment 2: International’.
As reported by PinkVilla, Brahmastra is the second Ranbir Kapoor film to score Rs 100 crore in its opening weekend whereas Alia Bhatt makes her debut in this club. The weekend biz has also resulted in Ranbir Kapoor scoring Rs 30 crore or more in a single day for the sixth time in his career. It’s the third best for an actor after Salman Khan (20 times) and Aamir Khan (9 times).
The science-fiction fantasy thriller that has an ensemble star cast with Ranbir and Alia in lead roles, has become a rage ever since its release, courtesy the grand scale of this magnum opus drama and the larger than life VFX. ‘Brahmastra’ also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles with Shah Rukh Khan in a special cameo.
