Guwahati: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), chief executive member, Pramod Boro said that Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) will be a challenge for them in the upcoming assembly elections in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

On Tuesday, speaking to the media, Boro said that BPF has always been a challenge for them but they have already pulled up their socks in order to contest in the upcoming elections.

Pramod Boro stated that UPPL is in a position to field candidates in 26 constituencies in the state, though it is up to the party’s executive to take the final decision.

“UPPL is in the process of launching an election campaign and we are reviewing whether we could contest with BJP or alone. During the BTC elections, there was no formal alliance with the BJP. We only had an understanding with the BJP. We are still in discussion as to how to officially form an alliance,” added Boro.

In the context of the official closure of the BTC on the day of the BTC agreement signed on February 10, 2003, Boro said that they have taken steps to gradually eradicate the Bandh culture in the area.

Pramod Boro also stated that for the overall development of BTR, the BTC Council Government has undertaken new schemes in the field of education and agriculture with priority given to the younger generation.
