GUWAHATI: To bolster the fight against COVID-19, the Assam Government set up a 300-bed COVID-19 care hospital in Guwahati. Chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated the hospital at Sarusajai.
The hospital will act as an annex to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
“The Hospital will have a life span of 5 years, which can be further extended. The hospital will have a facility of 100 ICU beds. Oxygen facility can be made available to other 200 beds as well. This new facility shall ease strain on hospitals,” said chief minister Sarma in a tweet.

The hospital is equipped with a liquid oxygen tank to ensure continuous supply of oxygen to patients. It will be refilled weekly.
On the other hand, with the starting of the new hospital, COVID19 treatment at MMCH and Singimari hospital will stop.
“GMCH & DRDO hospital shall be available for treatment of COVID patients from now onwards,” the chief minister added.

“Glad that the 20-bed ICU & 32 Oxygen Supported Beds at Kalapahar #COVID Care Hospital, an annex of GMCH, is also ready. I am happy to have inaugurated this too today,” Dr Sarma stated further.
Along with Sarma, health minister Keshab Mahanta and top health department officials also attended the inaugural function.
