Bongaigaon people, be careful: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: After four COVID-19 cases without any contact history were detected from lower Assam’s Bongaigaon district, Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked the residents of the district to be careful about it. Earlier on Tuesday, a 16-year old girl from Salmara village under Manikpur revenue circle in Bongaigaon district tested COVID-19 positive.

“This is the first time in Assam. For the first time four cases have been detected without any contact history. So, the people in Bongaigaon district must be careful from now,” said health minister Sarma.

All the four patients were not under quarantine. Minister Sarma stated that the district administration and health department will try their best to find out the other people who may have come into contact with these four patients.

“We have decided to declare Bongaigaon as Red Zone,” Sarma further added.

On the other hand, the health minister Chaired a review meeting at Bongaingaon DC office along with his deputy Pijush Hazaika, ministers Chandan Brahma and Phani Bhusan Choudhury with deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the district.

The four patients have been identified as Anupam Thakuria of Chaparakata, Dipak Mallik of Abhayapuri Amguri second part, Babita Basfor of Swahid Bedi, and Meena Biswakarma of Railway Colony. Reportedly, none of them came under contact with any COVID-19 patient which has raised serious concerns.

Meanwhile, Bongaigaon deputy commissioner M.S. Lakshmi Priya said, “The areas where the patients have been found will be declared as containment and red zones. All the precautions will be strictly followed. We have already formed teams to find out the details of their contact. We request everyone to cooperate with the district administration.”

On the other hand, Afia Tabassum, a 16-year old girl from Salmara village of Bongaigaon district tested COVID-19 positive on Tuesday.  Reportedly, Afia came into contact with Jamaluddin Haji, another COVID-19 patient from Dhubri who visited Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “Afia Tabassum visited Jamaluddin Haji on March 23. She is the grand-daughter of Jamaluddin. She was under home quarantine.”
