Bollywood Romcom movies to enjoy during lockdown

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: Amid Coronavirus scare and complete lockdown love and laughter can help us get through this period of self-quarantine and social distancing. That’s why romcom (romantic comedy) movies are a good choice for pausing pandemic anxiety for a few hours. You can definitely watch these movies with your family (don’t forget to maintain distance) is must. Here are five romcom movies that fit the times in their own special ways.

1. GolMal (1979)

I remember this was the first-ever romcom movie that I watched on TV with my parents. It is safe to say that Golmaal is Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s best film, especially when you consider the plethora of amazing movies he has made. This classic 70’s flick is regarded by many as undoubtedly the greatest Bollywood comedy movie of all times. Utpal Dutt is mostly remembered for his role as a strict boss and a person who holds the qualities of the Raj era to his heart, and in the process creating a generation gap between himself and the entire world. The ‘double role’ played by the next door boy Amol Palekar in order to cover his real colors in front of his boss and his girlfriend makes a riot of a script such that you will remember for a long time. R D Burman’s “Golmaal” and Kishore Kumar’s “Aane Waala Pal” are songs that render the heart with unsurpassed happiness and sorrow. All this has made this movie the greatest Hindi comedy flick of all times. A must watch movie!

2.Andaaz Apna Apna (1994)

I did wonder how could someone write such hilarious scenes one after another but Rajkumar Santoshi and Dilip Shukla did it. Unfortunately, the film was a big flop when it was released as the film was way ahead of its time.  The movie is all about the chemistry of Aamir Khan and Salman Khan and the cherry on  top was the character of ‘Crime Master Gogo’ played by Shakti Kapoor. This is amzing movie. As clean romcom that you can definitely sit and watch with your family. You will never get bored watching this epic cult classic.

3.Hera Pheri (2000)

Some films are never old. Such films entertain you as well as tell you something about your society, something that is a part of our life. HERA PHERI is one of those never-forgettable best films. Everything about the movie is so perfect , the characters , the acting , the songs , the story , the dialogue delivery and even the filter. All the portrayals are brilliant and of course the comedy legend – Paresh Rawal’s performance was so exquisite that even after two decades his character Baburao is known by all. Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Tabu were also brilliant in their respective roles. This is should definitely be on your list .

4.Munna Bhai M.B.B.S (2003)

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S is of the the finest movies in Bollywood. I, personally have watched it many times and I highly recommend everyone to watch it, at least once in their lifetime. Directed by the genius Rajkumar Hirani, the movie went on to win the 2004 National Film Award , and several Filmfare Awards. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi’s comic timing was extraordinary. And most importantly, Sunil Dutt’s presence made it more beautiful. And definitely Boman Irani was the star of this movie.

5. 3 Idiots (2009)

No introduction is needed for this movie. This movie has its heart on its right place. Rajkumar Hirani serves you idealism but with utmost conviction. He is able to establish a compelling connect with his audience, qualifying himself as one of the finest filmmakers of his time. Who else can turn something as trivial as pudina chatni into a price indicator? The film redefines idiot as ‘I do it on my own terms’. After watching the film, you won’t mind being certified as an idiot. If you still don’t approve of the film, you are a certified cynic. ‘ 3 Idiots ’ is one of the most entertaining films of the decade. And who can forget the bonding between Amir Khan(Rancho), R.Madhavan (Farhan) and Sharman Joshi (Raju). My list isn’t complete without this one any day.
