Body of senior NF Railway official swept away by Lohit River at Parashuram Kund recovered

GUWAHATI, Nov 28: The body of Suvendu Kumar Choudhary, Principal Chief Safety Officer of NF Railway, who was swept away by strong currents of the Lohit River near Parashuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, was recovered last night at Demwe in Tezu district of the State.

Choudhury,54, reports said, had gone to Parashuram Kund, a revered Hindu pilgrimage site, on Sunday from Tinsukia. Choudhury had arrived in the eastern Assam town on Nov 22 on an official inspection visit from where he and family, accompanied by few other NF Railway officials, reached Parshuram Kund.

However, he was swept away by strong river current while slipping into the Lohit river on Sunday. An extensive search operation was launched by the NDRF, Army, SDRF, Arunachal Police and local fishermen after the tragic incident.

And, after three days of searches, the body was recovered last night at Demwe in Tezu district of Arunachal Pradesh, approximately 8 kilometers downstream from Parashuram Kund.

A post-mortem will be conducted at Tezu while the funeral rites will be performed at Tinsukia later in the evening.
