The body of 26-year-old Rosmita Hojai of Dima Hasao, who went missing from New Delhi on June 5, has been found along the riverbank in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Rosmita, a resident of Hojai village in Dima Hasao, had gone to Delhi for a Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination.

Rosmita, family members said, last contacted her mother on the evening of June 5, saying she was returning by train, which raised suspicions as it was out of character for her to make such a statement. Fearing she might have been under duress, her family had been searching for her.

Two individuals — Hemant Sharma from Mohindergarh in Delhi and Pankaj Kokar from Rohtak, Haryana — who had reported her disappearance to Shivpuri Police Station, have been detained for further questioning.

They had alleged that Rosmita was swept away by the river.

Meanwhile, Uttam Langthasa, President of All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU), has appealed to the Assam government to help the family in bringing back the mortal remains of Rosmita Hojai. He also sought a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of her death.

Dima Hasao Addl. SP Luit Talukdar told News Live that the post mortem of the young woman has been completed and that efforts are underway to bring home her mortal remains.

The Dimasa Mothers’ Association (DMA) has also appealed the Dima Hasao district administration to ensure that her death is investigated properly claiming that she was murdered besides also asking officials to help the family bring Rosmita’s mortal remains home.
