Bodo Peace Treaty: “It will usher in a new era” says Ranjan Daimary

GUWAHATI/NEW DELHI: “This accord or the agreement will usher in a new era, an era of peace, harmony and development,” said National Democratic Front of Bodoland leader Ranjan Daimary after signing the Bodo Peace Treaty with the government in New Delhi today.

“After fighting for 34 years, we were waiting for this historic day. We are today really happy to sign an accord with the Government of India,” Daimary expressed his happiness.

Meanwhile, All Bodo Students’ Union President Pramod Bodo said, “We want peace, unity and progress. We hope government will implement letter and spirit of the accord.”

B Saoraigwra, president of NDFB(S) who joined the peace process recently said, “People want peace and development. We respected their spirit and negotiated. It is a historic day for us. We are very happy.”

Expressing his views over joining politics, another signatory of the treaty NDFB leader Gobinda Basumatary said,”We have not decided yet. We will take the decision in the right time.”

He also urged the government to implement the treaty as soon as possible.
