The Delhi High Court judge, Justice Yashwant Varma, has been transferred back to Allahabad High Court
GUWAHATI, March 21: A fire at the house of a Delhi High Court judge has now opened up a can of worms for him after firefighters who came to douse the blaze recovered a huge pile of unaccounted cash at his residence.
Justice Yashwant Varma of the Delhi High Court is now under the spotlight with the Supreme Court on Friday initiating an in-house inquiry into the recovery of cash from Justice Varma’s residence.
Reports said that Justice Verma was not in town when the fire broke out. His family informed the fire department about the blaze who, in turn, stumbled into the huge cash stored in one of the rooms of his house.
News of the recovery of the cash, the exact amount of which is not known, began to spread and it reached the ears of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna who called an immediate meeting of the Supreme Court collegium committee.
The collegium had then decided to repatriate Justice Varma back to Allahabad High Court, his parent High Court, from which he was transferred to Delhi High Court in October 2021.
The apex court, meanwhile, has also sought a report from Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Bar & Bench reported.
