GUWAHATI, Feb 1: The BJP-led alliance in Assam is likely to sweep the Lok Sabha elections in Assam and win 11 out of the 14 seats if polls are to be held today, a mega Opinion Poll conducted by News Live has predicted.
The main Opposition Congress, on the other hand, is expected to win just two seats while the AIUDF has been projected to win one seat.
The three-party alliance of BJP, AGP and the UPPL — according to our Opinion Poll based on a sample survey of 5000 eligible voters in each of the 14 constituencies besides taking into account responses of people on our social media handles — is positioned to emerge victorious in Silchar, Autonomous District (Diphu), Barpeta, Guwahati, Darrang-Udalguri (Mangaldoi prior to the delimitation exercise), Sonitpur (formerly Tezpur), Kokrajhar , Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and the newly-formed Kaziranga (formerly Kaliabor) Lok Sabha constituency.
The Congress is expected to scrape through in Nagaon and Karimganj but is expected to face a tough fight from the AIUDF, the opinion poll results showed.
On the other hand, AIUDF will have the last laugh in Dhubri where Badruddin Ajmal, the AIUDF supremo, is the sitting MP.
