Protests were held against the attack on Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma with BJP activists slamming the Congress party for the incident
The BJP today (July 1) staged statewide protests in Assam, flaying the water bottle attack on Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma by Youth Congress workers at Golaghat yesterday (June 30).
The statewide protests were held under the aegies of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Assam Pradesh unit.
BJP leaders flayed the attack on the Assam Chief Minister and demanded that those behind the incident be brought to book and punished exemplarily.
“I believe it was an attack on Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s life and the issue should not be taken lightly and that those involved in the attack should be punished,” minister Prasanta Phukan told News Live after attending the protest in Dibrugarh.
A protest demonstration was also taken out in Guwahati which was attended by several party leaders, including Samaguri BJP MLA Diplu Ranjan Sarmah, former BJP MLA Rituparna Baruah, State BJYM president Rakesh Das, among others.
“The attack on Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is loved and revered by the people of Assam, by Congress activists is very condemnable. If Congress thinks that by attacking him, BJP and the people will become afraid, they are wrong. The attack is an act of cowardice and people will give them a befitting reply,” Diplu Ranjan Sarmah told News Live after taking part in the demonstration.
“People of Nalbari have come out to the streets to protest the attack on Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma by Congress goons in Golaghat yesterday. The Congress is resorting to such an act as it is clearly nervous and frustrated. I condemn the incident,” Jayanta Malla Baruah, Chief Minister Sarma’s cabinet colleague, told News Live in Nalbari.
Protests were held against the attack on the Assam CM in other parts of the State as well with BJP activists slamming the Congress party for the incident.
