BJP likely to change candidates in 15 constituencies of Upper Assam

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to give preferences to new faces for many constituencies in Assam assembly polls scheduled to be held in 2021.

According to a news report, BJP is likely to give candidatures to its young leaders for 15 assembly seats in upper Assam. The party has already started surveys in seven districts of the region to choose the right candidates.

Bitopan Raidongia, Bhaben Mohan, Bijit Gogoi, Aparajita Bhuyan and Surabhi Rajkonwari are among the aspirants for a BJP ticket in Sivasagar Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC). On the other hand, if chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal contests polls from Dibrugarh, Bhuban Gam and Hemchandra Doley are likely to demand candidature from Majuli which is now being represented by CM Sonowal.

If BJP fields candidate in Naharkatia, Taranga Gogoi and Bikul Deka can become the choices for the party. Naren Sonowal from Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won 2016 elections in Naharkatia.

Similarly Lakhya Konwar and Pabitra Margherita are planning to contest from Margheita constituency. Currently, the constituency is held by BJP MLA Bhaskar Sarma.

According to the report, Subhas Dutta, Achuyt Phukan and Dayananda Borgohain can aspire for party ticket from Moran. The party echelons are likely to search for a new face due to the inactivity of present Moran MLA Chakradhar Gogoi.

On the other hand, Assam state BJP vice-president Pulak Gohain is likely to fight elections in Tinsukia constituency. Therefore, present Tinsukia MLA and minister Sanjay Kishan may get party ticket for Doomdooma.
