BJP-led alliance to win 42 seats in first phase, predicts Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: As the campaigning for the third phase of Assam assembly elections ended on Thursday, NEDA convenor and Assam finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed BJP-led alliance will get 42 seats out of the total 47 in the first phase. The 47 constituencies of upper and middle Assam will go to the polls in the first phase on March 27.

“Under the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat, we will get all the seats except one. We will win all the seats under Tezpur and Dibrugarh LS constituencies. In Jorhat also, we will grab all the seats. I think we may not get 4 seats in Kaliabor. So, we will get total 42 seats,” the senior BJP leader predicted.

Meanwhile, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora claimed his party would win more than 30 seats in the first phase.

“Last time, BJP had dominance over these 47 seats. But, this time it will be reversed. BJP will face debacle and we will win the highest number of seats. We may win 30 plus seats,” said Bora.

On the last day of the canvassing for the first phase, minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed multiple election rallies which drew large crowds.

Dr. Sarma campaigned at Batadrava, Biswanath Chariali, Sarupathar, Bokakhat, Dergaon, Margherita and Sadia on Thursday.

Each rally witnessed massive participation of the BJP workers and well-wishers.
