BJP leader Suranjann Dutta takes responsibility of Rituparna Pegu’s son

GUWAHATI: Assam BJP media panelist  Suranjann Dutta has exhibited utmost humanity by coming forward to help the family of Rituparna Pegu who was brutally killed in broad daylight in Guwahati on Friday. Suranjann Dutta has decided to take responsibility of Geri Pegu, the nine-month old son of deceased Rituparna.

Taking to Facebook Suranjann writes, “I have taken responsibility of bringing up Geri Pegu, the nine-month-old son of Rituparna Pegu.”

After Dutta’s announcement, social media has become abuzz with the praises for his kind gesture.

“Who says humanity doesn’t exist? It exists in today’s tough times also and Suranjann G Dutta dada restored our faith in humanity once again by adopting the child of martyr Rituparna Pegu who was lynched by a ruthless mob. May God bless u dada,” writes a Facebook user.

The video of victim Rituparna Pegu’s wife pleading for help with her 9-month-old baby as the husband’s body was carried to a police van went viral on Social Media.

The murder of Rituparna Pegu at Noonmati by a group of five has sparked outrage across the State.

Rituparana, a 24-year-old youth from Dhemaji district was killed following an argument that took place at a shop in Noonmati area. The incident was captured on CCTV.

The deceased Rituparna Pegu was an employee of the shop, Arman Home Furnishing, before he lost his job due to the lockdown.

Several organisations on Saturday took to the streets to demand justice for Rituparna.

The protesters demanded capital punishment for the culprits.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered a probe by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the horrific incident.
