Biswanath Tragedy: Absconding driver of ill-fated vehicle surrenders at Amguri

Guwahati: The driver of the vehicle that met with an accident in Assam’s Biswanath district on Saturday in which five young Bihu artistes were killed surrendered at Amguri police station in Sivasagar district on Monday.

The driver identified as Abhijit Gogoi was driving the four-wheeler allegedly in an inebriated condition.

Amguri police have taken Abhijit Gogoi into custody. 

Although hailing from Amguri in Sivasagar district, he has been living in Helem under Biswanath district for the past 11 years.

It may be mentioned here that five members of a Bihu husori group — all of them teenagers — were killed in the tragic accident at the national highway 15 late Saturday night.

The incident occurred at the Tokobari under Helem Police station.

The Bihu troupe comprising around 20 boys and girls, all residents of North Karibeel in Kosarigaon village, had gone to perform Husori at Rangajan in Gohpur. 

They were returning late at night when the accident took place.

The five husori group members — two boys and three were girls — were identified as Radhika Daimary, Buddhimoti Boro, Bornali Boro, Sanjay Basumatary and Kalimon Basumatary.

The other injured people were admitted to the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.
