Guwahati: Former Rajya Sabha member and Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate Biswajit Daimary collected nomination papers from the Returning Officer on Thursday. The ECI (Election Commission of India) has announced 1 March (Monday) as the poll date for the lone Rajya Sabha (RS) seat from Assam.
The last date for the filing of nominations is 18 February and the last day for withdrawal of nominations is 22 February.
It is to be noted that Assam has seven RS seats. A seat became vacant on November 21, 2020, following the resignation of former BPF (Bodoland People’s Front) member Biswajit Daimary. He subsequently joined the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party).
