Binita Chetry had won the third position in the grand finale of the internationally-famous reality show Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) 2025 held in London
Super dancer Binita Chetry of Assam, who won the second runners-up position in the internationally-famous reality show Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) 2025, returned home to a rousing reception.
Many people gathered at the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi international airport in Guwahati to welcome Binita who captivated audiences with her sensational performances.
The Gorkha Development Council also felicitated Binita at the airport.
“I would like to thank everyone for supporting me in my journey in Britain’s Got Talent. The competition was very tough and I am happy that I could bag the second runners-up position. I would like to keep performing and keep improving,” she told News Live after her arrival at the airport.
She also thanked Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma whom she is slated to meet later this evening.
“I am happy that Himanta Biswa Sarma Mama has taken out some time from his busy schedule and I am waiting eagerly to meet him later this evening,” she said.
Just nine years old, the budding dancer has already shone in several other national and international platforms, leving a lasting impression on both judges of BGT and viewers and audiences worldwide with her performances.
Hailing from Bokajan in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, she scripted history by securing the third position in the grand finale of the internationally-famous reality show held in London on Saturday (May 31).
Binita had become the first contestant from India to reach the finals of the prestigious competition.
Despite not receiving a Golden Buzzer—a point of contention among fans who believed she deserved it—Binita advanced through the competition based on public votes, reflecting her broad appeal and the impact of her performances.
Behind her success is the unwavering support of her parents — especially that of her father Amar Chettri who runs a small broiler farm in Bokajan.
An executive member and district vice president of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), he had arranged for the nine-year-old’s dance training first in Guwahati and then in Jaipur.
Following her third-place performance in BGT 2025, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated her saying that “her performances have mesmerized audiences from the Brahmaputra to the Thames and made us all proud”.
The ace dancer had earlier hoped to personally meet “Himanta Mama” and thank him for his “immense support and blessings”.
“I want to personally meet our Chief Minister Himanta Mama in Guwahati and thank him for his immense support and blessings in my journey. I hope this message reaches him, and I get the opportunity to meet him,” she had said.
She also acknowledged the support received from Tuliram Ronghang, the Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), and local MLA and Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Dr Numal Momin for their continued support over the past year.
