Guwahati: The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will introduce ‘Bihu’ as a part of the syllabus for higher secondary students.
From 2020, students of Higher Secondary first year will be eligible to take Bihu as their elective subject and the exam question papers will be of 100 marks where 40 marks will be for theory, 60 marks for practical.
The education council recently organised a meeting where many educationists and experts were present. They discussed the topics to be added for the new syllabus including what benefits the topic can provide to the youth of Assam.
It is to be noted that the syllabus has been divided into two parts, where the first section will include the history and evolution of Bihu, where the second section will have detailed information regarding Bihu songs, the third section will include details of instruments used in Bihu.
Other than these, it will also include traditions, customs of Bihu, why Bihu is celebrated and detailed description of the ornaments used during Bihu.
Dr. Dayanand Borgohain, Chairman, Assam Higher Secondary Education Council stated, “In one word, this syllabus will provide the youth, detailed as well as special knowledge about Rongali Bihu, Bhogali Bihu, and Kati Bihu.”
“The syllabus also describes how people of different tribes celebrate Bihu in Assam,” Borgohain added.
Educationists and experts present at the meeting included Jaykanta Gandhi, Amrendra Gogoi, Pradipjyoti Neog, Parashmani Dutta, Bhupen Narzary, Ismail Hussain, Pobitro Mohan Phukan, Jina Rajkumari, Ranjit Gogoi.
