Plot Overview
Bhool Chuk Maaf follows the story of Ranjan (Rajkummar Rao) and Titli (Wamiqa Gabbi), two young lovers from Banaras who are desperate to get married. But just before the wedding, Ranjan finds himself stuck in a strange time loop — reliving the same day again and again. The plot takes a humorous and emotional turn as the couple tries to handle love, family expectations, and adult responsibilities, all while stuck in this loop.
What Works in the Film
The movie delivers a sweet message about today’s self-centred and isolated lifestyles. The second half brings depth, highlighting how small selfish acts affect society. The humour is clean and simple, and some characters and scenes do stand out. Performances by Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, and Zakir Hussain add strong support to the setting.
Wamiqa Gabbi impresses in her role and shows charm and energy on screen. The family dynamics, especially the unusual financial role reversal between Raghubir Yadav and Seema Pahwa, feel fresh and relatable.
Where It Fails
Despite its fresh setting, the film suffers from poor writing and direction, especially in the first half. There are too many unnecessary songs, repetitive jokes, and a long delay before the actual plot begins. Film critic Sumit Kadel called it “UNBEARABLE” and criticised its weak script and repeated character moulds.
Hemant Sanganee pointed out that while the chemistry between Rajkummar and Wamiqa is cute, the film drags with unwanted scenes. He even suggested trimming the movie by at least 30 minutes.
Taran Adarsh, however, felt it was “heartwarming” and appreciated the film’s climax.
Audience Reactions
On social media, the response has been mixed. Some viewers enjoyed the comedy and light-hearted tone, calling it “mast movie hai” and praising Wamiqa Gabbi’s performance and the emotional climax. But others felt it was the weakest film by Maddock Films and complained about repetitive themes, boring storytelling, and a lack of freshness in Rajkummar Rao’s performance.
Final Verdict
Bhool Chuk Maaf tries to mix comedy, romance, and a social message in one pack. While the second half offers a better experience and the ending brings some satisfaction, the film struggles to maintain interest due to weak writing and a tired template. Rajkummar Rao fans might find it too familiar, but if you like clean humour and don’t mind a slow build-up, this one’s watchable.
