GUWAHATI, Nov 29: Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta will officiate as the DGP (In-Charge) of Assam with the term of Kuladhar Saikia, the present Assam Police DG who was on a three-month extension, ending tomorrow.
Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta will continue as the caretaker DGP till the UPSC finalises the name of a regular police chief.
Mahanta is a 1988 Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer and is presently officiating as Special DGP (Border).
The Assam government had earlier sent the names of NK Sinha, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, KB Singh Deu, BK Mishra and Mukesh Agarwal to the UPSC for selection.
