Bhante Baba dies, body to be kept for 7 days to pay tributes

The body of U Gunawantha Mahathera who was popularly known as Bhante Baba, who had passed away yesterday (Nov 10) evening at a private hospital in Margherita will be kept at the Mounglang Khamti Buddhist Monastery at Ledo for seven days to enable his followers to pay their last tributes.

The date of his cremation will be decided only after that, a monk of the monastery said.

Popularly known as Bhante Baba, it was at the Mounglang Khamti Buddhist Monastery at Ledo that he lived and preached the tenets of Buddhism among his followers.

His death at the age of 100 years has cast a pall of gloom among his followers who are grieving the loss of their Bhante, a saint and mentor for lakhs.
