In a heartbreaking incident from Bengaluru, the body of a 40-year-old woman named Asha was discovered inside a garbage truck, stuffed in a sack with her hands tied. What started as a shocking discovery by civic workers soon turned into a murder investigation, uncovering a tragic story of betrayal and violence.
The police acted swiftly after the body was found by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Sunday. Investigators sent the body for postmortem and began checking CCTV footage around the area. Soon, they identified the main suspect—33-year-old Mohammed Shamshuddin, Asha’s live-in partner.
Asha and Shamshuddin had been in a relationship for about one and a half years. They were living together in Hulimavu, South Bengaluru, in a rented house. Both had children from previous marriages and had introduced themselves to neighbours as husband and wife, though they were not legally married. Asha, a widow, worked as a housekeeping staff through the Urban Company, while Shamshuddin, originally from Assam, had a wife and two children still living in his hometown.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Lokesh B Jagalasar, the couple had an argument which escalated and ended with Shamshuddin allegedly strangling Asha to death. What followed was even more disturbing—he carried her lifeless body on a bike and dumped it in a BBMP garbage truck, trying to hide the crime.
CCTV footage captured his movements and helped the police piece together the final moments before the discovery. Shamshuddin has now been arrested and is in police custody.
This incident has left many in the city shocked and disturbed. Asha, who was trying to make a living and raise her children after losing her husband, died at the hands of someone she trusted.
The police are now completing further investigations and have assured the public that justice will be served. This case is yet another grim reminder of the hidden dangers in relationships that appear normal from the outside but hide dark realities.
