GUWAHATI, Nov 5: Assam Water Resources & Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika today dropped a big bombshell, raising reports about the Congress party “selling” the party ticket for Behali assembly constituency for Rs 2 crore.
Behali will go to by-polls along with four other constituencies of Assam on Nov 13.
The Assam Minister took to the social media and alleged that if ground reports were to be believed, the candidate shelled out close to Rs 2 crore to get the party ticket for Behali.
He also alleged that a large part of the money went to a senior Congress leader from Jorhat while another sum went to a party leader from Alwar, Rajasthan.
Although Hazarika did not name the two Congress leaders, political circles were busy name guessing.
And the obvious names that came up were that of Jorhat Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi and AICC general secretary and the party’s observer for Assam Jitendra Singh.
The Minister concluded by saying that if reports of money exchanging hands for the Congress ticket is true, it would be “another tragedy” for party workers.
The Congress party is yet to react to Pijush Hazarika’s allegations and has maintained a stoic silence. The Congress’ silence, many political pundits say, has stamped some authenticity on the allegations levelled by the Assam Minister.
