GUWAHATI, Nov 23: BJP candidate Diganta Ghatowal has defeated his Congress rival Jayanta Bora by a margin of over 9,000 votes in the by-elections in Behali.
The BJP candidate won by a margin of around 9,051 votes after thirteen rounds of counting ended.
While Ghatowal polled 50,861 votes, the Congress candidate could get 41,805 votes. CPI-ML candidate Lakhi Kanta Kurmi got 5086 votes while AAP candidate Ananta Gogoi got 1209 votes.
Polls were held in Dholai (SC) in Barak Valley, and in Samaguri, Behali, Bongaigaon and Sidli on November 13 after legislators of these five constituencies were elected to the Lok Sabha in the general elections held in April and May this year.
