Battling pneumonia, Pope Francis tells aides he might not survive: Reports

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI, Feb 20: Pope Francis has reportedly told his private aides that he might not survive the battle he has been fighting against pneumonia, media reports have stated.

The 88-year-old pontiff was rushed to hospital last Friday where he was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.

The Vatican reported early Wednesday morning that the Pope was stable and that he slept well. “He had a tranquil night, woke up and had breakfast,” a statement issued by the Vatican said.

Along with pneumonia, Pope Francis is also dealing with asthmatic bronchitis requiring cortisone and antibiotics for treatment, reports said, adding that doctors have confirmed that his respiratory infection is caused by a mix of viruses, bacteria, and potentially other organisms, complicating his recovery.

Despite the updates from the Vatican, ‘The Sun’ reported that Pope Francis is now fearing that he might not recover from the illness.
