‘Barpeta Ratna’ Gokul Pathak passes away, CM Sonowal expresses grief

GUWAHATI: Eminent litterateur, dramatist and social worker Gokul Pathak passed away on Sunday evening. Pathak who was known as ‘Barpeta Ratna’ breathed his last at a private nursing home at Barpeta in lower Assam.

‘Barpeta Xatrar Itihaas’ is one of the monumental works of Pathak who was a connoisseur of history and culture of Barpeta. Meanwhile, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his grief over the demise of the revered personality.

“An eminent litterateur, dramatist and social reformer, ‘Barpeta Ratna’ Gokul Pathak’s contribution towards Assamese literature and culture will be remembered forever. Saddened to learn about his demise and I offer my sincere condolences to his bereaved family members,” Sonowal tweeted.

Agriculture minister Atul Bora also expressed his grief, “Deeply saddened by the demise of eminent litterateur Gokul Pathak. His rich contributions towards Assamese literature will be remembered forever. My heartfelt condolences to his family members and followers. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary also expressed condolences over the death of the eminent writer and social reformer.
