GUWAHATI: Assam’s singer Babu and music director Ajoy Phukan are set to join the Congress party on Tuesday.
The duo took part actively in the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests that shook the state in December last year.
“I was active in the anti-CAA movement. Since, the Congress also opposes the act; they offered me to join the party. I am joining on August 25. If I fight elections, I will contest from West Guwahati constituency,” Babu told media persons recently.
Meanwhile, two other well-known personalities in the cultural field of Assam—Simanta Shekhar and flutist Dipak Sarma will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.
