The Autumn Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly got underway today with the house convening for the nine-day meet. At least two bills are expected to be tabled in the house during this session of the assembly.
The house witnessed noisy scenes as Opposition MLAs raised the NRC update issue and the hike in petrol and diesel prices, displaying placard and even storming to the well of the assembly on the fuel price hike issue.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Hojai, Shiladitya Dev, staged a unique protest as he displayed a placard reading “My Lord Do Not Discriminate Your Own Children” and ending with “Hindu – Born In India”. The Hojai legislator was apparently miffed with the Supreme Court ruling that barred Prateek Hajela, the NRC State Coordinator, from sharing information on the update process.

Dev, who has been in the news for making one controversial statement after another on the NRC update issue, had even accused Muslim data entry operators of Bangladeshi origin of being involved in the update process who, he said, were enlisting names of Muslim Bangladeshis in the draft NRC.
Meanwhile, after the house convened earlier in the morning, the house hailed the achievements of star athlete Hima Das, champion shooter Hriday Hazarika and filmmaker Rima Das and actor Adil Hussain for their recent achievements.
