India beat Australia by 137 runs at MCG

PUBLISHED:

India etched history at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) today (Dec 30) defeating Australia by 137 runs in a Boxing Day Test (Third Test) to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series and inch towards another milestone: winning a series against Australia Down Under for the first time ever.

Virat Kohli & Co. achieved what had been on the cards after Australia were bundled out in just 27 balls on the fifth and final day of the Test. Jasprit Bumrah (3/53) and Ishant Sharma (2/40) took the remaining two wickets to give India their 150th Test victory.

Incidentally, today’s victory at the MCG came 37 years after the Sunil Gavaskar-led Indian team defeated the Aussies in the 1980-81 series.

The victory at the iconic MCG was the 11th for skipper Virat Kohli in the longest format of the game outside India in 24 matches and equalled Sourav Ganguly who achieved the feat in 28 Tests.

The fourth and final Test begins at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) from Jan 3 (Thursday).

Brief Scores | India: 443/7 declared & 106/8 declared; Australia: 151 & 261 all out.
