GUWAHATI, Jan 22: American 19th seed Madison Keys came back from a set down to beat Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and book her place in the women’s singles semi-finals of the Australian Open Wednesday.
It’s her third entry into the last-four of the competition and 10 years since she first reached the Australian Open semis.
Keys will meet five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek in the semi-final. Second seed Swiatek breezed past another American quarter-finalist — eighth seed Emma Navarro — in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 to equal her best performance in Melbourne.
“Madison is a great player and experienced so you never know,” Swiatek is reported to have said about her semi-final opponent.
Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, will face Paula Badosa in the other semi-final on Thursday.
