ATTSA stages protest seeking ST status and wage hike for tea workers

GUWAHATI: The Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA) on Thursday staged a protest in Biswanath Chariali and Golaghat seeking wage hike for tea garden workers and tribal status for their people in Assam.

Hundreds of workers under the All Assam Tea Tribes’ Students’ Association (ATTSA) banner staged a demonstration seeking wage hike. The protesters raised slogans against the government for not fulfilling the demand to increase the minimum wage of the tea workers.

They also burnt an effigy of Member of Parliament Tezpur, Pallab Lochan Das.

“Pallab Lochan Das was a student leader previously and he used to fight against the government for these reasons. Today he knows the truth but is not supporting us. Instead of helping us he said that the wage hike for tea workers is unnecessary, We condemn such actions and this drama should be stopped,” said a protestor.
