Multiple road accidents across Assam continue to be reported despite authorities sensitising people on rash driving and driving under the influence of alcohol

GUWAHATI, March 18: At least 11 persons have been injured, four of them seriously, in multiple road accidents across Assam in the past 24 hours.

One person, who was riding his two-wheeler bearing registration number AS-09-B-3448, was seriously injured after he was hit by a speeding sand-laden tractor bearing registration AS-01-AC-4544 on the National Highway 515 in Jonai sub-division of Assam’s Dhemaji district in the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday.

The biker, who is yet to be identified, was hit by the tractor in a head-on collision. The tractor then hit another vehicle — a tempo —injuring a couple of occupants of the three-wheeler as well.

The injured motorcycle-rider was rushed to Jonai Civil Hospital in a critical condition.

At Barama in Assam’s Baksa district, three persons, including the driver of a car, were seriously injured after their vehicle rammed into a truck.

The car bearing registration number AS-01-BJ-2222, reportedly from Guwahati’s Rehabari, rammed into the truck (registration number NL-01-L-8134) on the National Highway 31 at Borjhar in Barama.

The injured persons were admitted to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, seven passengers of an autorickshaw were injured after the vehicle was hit by another car at Kathiatoli in Assam’s Nagaon district.

The autorickshaw was on its way to Dabaka when it was hit by the car, a Maruti Wagon R, bearing registration number AS-09-J-2035.

All the injured passengers of the autorickshaw were taken to hospital by police for treatment.
