GUWAHATI: The helpline introduced by the Assam’s health department for the people from the state stranded in other parts of the country has registered calls from more than 4 lakh families, informed health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at Diphu in Karbi Anglong district today.
“Our database has already included 4 lakh families. If there are at least 3-4 members in each family, then the number of people stranded in other parts of the country will be around 10-12 lakh,” said Dr. Sarma.
“If COVID does not end in India and if these people come from the hotbeds, then we will have to face a new situation. Second phase will be difficult for us,” he added.
However, minister Sarma also stated that since the state government has got the names of the people through the database, it will be convenient for the government to make planning of quarantine and other necessary arrangements.
